Visiting the Williams’ in Goose Creek

It was a short ride from Myrtle Beach to our campsite in Charleston on Friday, May 17. We were on US 17 for most of the way and on some nice two lane roads that make for easy driving. Looks like there had been some sort of fire in the left picture.

We were headed to visit with my niece Allie, her husband Justin, and their two boys Blake and Ben, who are 9 and 6. Once we got set-up at camp and had a little lunch, we met Allie and the boys at swim practice – they are both on a local swim team. Here are some pictures of Blake.

And here are some of Ben.

Then it was back to Allie’s for pizza and visiting. And getting a demonstration of the slack line and climbing wall that Justin built for the boys – so they can take after Doug & Lizabeth, and their Uncle Nick.

Saturday was Ben’s last baseball game, which happened despite the drizzle and sometimes rain. Ben got a hit, and he did well in the field too!

And all kids sports leagues should have a sign like this.

As we were walking off the field, we heard some thunder – not sure they finished any other games as the rain really got steady by the time we got back to Allie’s. We ended up watching The Princess Bride – the boys had never seen it – and playing a game of Yahtzee to while away the dreary afternoon. And Blake and Ben were trying to toss a partially filled water water bottles to land upright – Blake finally stood one up – on top of the candle.

One other thing that Blake was practicing was stacking dice by shaking them back and forth in a cup – my cell phone couldn’t catch his motion, but you can see the results.

The rain stopped in time for us to go out to dinner in Summerville. We had a quick walk through town and found a spot to take some some photos of the boys.

And we found another World’s Largest – they brewed up 2,524 gallons of Sweet Tea using 210 pounds of tea, 1,600 pounds of sugar and over 300 pounds of ice on June 10, 2016. Now that’s a lot of tea! Not sure how many people they had there to drink it.

Here is our burrata cheese appetizer and our meringue covered chocolate torte that we had at Laura – a wonderful Italian restaurant – both were great and so was everything between. Trish was a little leery of the torch, as the waitress didn’t always seem to know where she was pointing it.

Allie and the boys met us for breakfast on Sunday morning, and then we went for a walk at the Caw Caw Interpretative Center. It’s a rice plantation converted to wetlands and wildlife preserve. Blake ran across this bear in the visitor center and then we saw this little froggy.

Here are some of the cypress trees and knees.

And as we were walking, we saw this big guy cross the path in front of us. Thankfully we had stopped for a few minutes at a wetlands overlook, or we would have been right there when he was crossing. When we got a little beyond, we could get a glimpse of where he settled in.

Some of the canals through the old rice fields, and the gate system used to control the level of the water..

The walkers and Ben figuring out how to get back to the car.

After relaxing back at the house, the boys went swimming in the neighborhood pool – which is right at the end of the cul-de-sac where they are the last house. It’s very easy for them to walk over. Ben is on the top row and Blake on the bottom – more diving practice.

Allie made us a great dinner of Hawaiian Nachos and then there was time for one last game of Yahtzee – everyone except Trish got a Yahtzee and Blake got two! He creamed us. And then there was time for a little reading

Justin checking out how big the Japanese radishes are they are growing to break up the soil – these should certainly help. We did taste it – a bit more peppery after taste than a regular radish, but not bad.

I can’t leave the Williams’ without a shot of Jak – their greying dog.

Then it was back to the RV to get set for our visit in Jacksonville – which will be my next update.

Until then, safe travels!
